The Chesham Octopush Touring and Drinking Club made its second appearance at the annual Turnhout tournament, only the second year that clubs from outside Belgium have been invited (we were the first: see last year for further info). One sad aspect of this year's tournament was that in the intervening year since our first appearance at this  tournament, the host club had declined to a point where it had actually folded, so the 15th annual Turnhout tournament was actually held without any participation from the host club.

As the level of the tournament dictated, we took a relatively inexperienced team, with one of our players picking up a pusher for the third time ever, and another playing in her first ever tournament, having not picked up a pusher for eighteen months! However, we played with enthusiasm and in all but one of our matches this enthusiasm, together with downhill advantage, saw us go into half-time in the lead (the other was a draw).

However, there our advantage faded, and in each game we let in more goals playing uphill than we had playing downhill, and thus came last in the tournament. However, as always, we were the last ones standing at the party, so it depends on how you define winning and losing . . .
