Val: "By now we had decided to forget skiing until next year, when possibly a proper ski trip with lessons could, nay should, be incorporated into the Octopush trip. So we decided to go to Kranska Gora. The bus seemed to take forever to arrive, so we decided to jump on the next bus that turned up and see where it took us. By this method we ended up in xxxxxxxx (does anyone remember the name of the place?), which was a beautiful place renowned for its cross-country skiing.
Again, we walked half-way
up a mountain playing snowball en route. We found a hotel at the top, but they didn't want
to serve us anything, so we walked back down and found somewhere that did. Again once fed
and watered we caught the bus back to Kranj, this time by the skin of our teeth. Val had
nipped off the toilet and the miserable bus driver really didn't want to wait,
but eventually relented when threatened second-hand with the wrath of Val.
Once back in Kranj, it was a brisk walk back to the halls to grab our things, then
straight back to the bus stop to catch the bus to the airport. We waited and waited, but
still no bus. Eventually, someone told us that the bus had been cancelled! Time for a
taxi. Paul strolled into the bar and came out with a taxi driver who happily agreed, auf
Deutsch, to take us in two trips to the airport. He nipped back into the bar to
finish his fag and drink, then gave us a fast drive to the airport. We think he thought
there was some urgency, and those in the second run had quite a scary trip.
Colin & Keith: After an early start, it was pizza for breakfast by
the slopes around the corner from the main village of Kranjska Gora. The main run was
serviced by chair lift and wound gently down the hillside. Keith was keen to look at some
of the red and black runs, but after a long traverse Colin decided he'd rather keep both
legs intact, so they returned to the main run.
Returning to the airport they found Paul and Val queueing for the check-in, while the taxi
that had brought them there went back for Culvin and Rob.
The flight back was uneventful, and we all made our way uneventfully through customs, and
said our goodbyes. Two of us didn't make it to the Tuesday Octopush session due to playing
Good Samaritan to Culvin (in hiding) and giving him a lift to Woking station . . .
Join us on our return to Orkney!
