Garry inherits the Chris Davey crown...

Sara: "It was a bright and breezy Sara that greeted everyone the next morning at the breakfast bar. The "bear with a sore head" this morning was Garry, who looked REALLY bad - definitely reminiscent of Chris Davey at his finest! He and Mart had had a good sesh with the wine (as there was no women and song) until some ungodly hour of the morning. All of us were grateful for the bread, cheese and large cups of coffee or chocolate to soak up the acid stomachs!

We said our goodbyes to Jimm and headed off reasonably promptly so that we could stop somewhere before getting back on the ferry. We decided that going into Paris was going to be a bad idea, due to its penchant for traffic jams, and so headed to the coast."

// JIMM CROSBY'S JOURNEY HOME //

Sara: "So how long before we stop?". Garry: "About sixty-five K". Martin: "About forty miles"
Sara: "So how long's that in terms of time?". Martin: "About ten minutes!"

Sara: "The boys were particularly interested in going to Decathlon in Boulogne for some sports stuff but it was being a good Catholic shop and was closed on a Sunday. So it was off to a restaurant elsewhere in the shopping complex for lunch, where pasta and pizza ("by the metre!") were once again the order of the day.

Suitably fed and watered, we then covered the final few miles to Calais and to the ferry port. The weather was bright and sunny, and this made for a very pleasant crossing (apart from the ferry almost shaking itself to bits getting out of the port!).

"Pizza by the metre..."

We watched with amusement as another ferry tried to bust a gut to catch us and get into Dover before us, only for it to suddenly stop and let us through: obviously it had got a bit of a slapping from some higher authority!

Being now accustomed to Garry's driving, it was no surprise that we got back to Chesham in less than two hours, although we were helped by the fact that we had arrived back in the U.K. early enough to miss the Sunday evening traffic. However, we were also greeted by something to which we were also well accustomed: British weather! It just tipped it down . . .

The tour was finished off with a fine meal at the New Akash Indian Restaurant in Berkhamsted where Garry went for the self-proclaimed "fatboy option" with his curry ... extra chips!"
