Now in our third year of touring, we returned to where it all started: Kranj, Slovenia and the Memorial Mesareca tournament 2000. And the "Pust" of course . . .
We followed last year's Star Wars theme, where the dolphin became Obi-Wan Kenobi, with a punk-rock theme, so there was really only one choice of mascot: John Simon Ritchie, better known to the world as "Sid Vicious". This year's tournament coincided with the UK National Championship Qualifiers, so we adopted a deliberate policy of taking only players who would not otherwise be playing in the Nationals. With the exception, that is, of Doug and Marion, who were not going to let anything get in the way of an anniversary reunion. ;-)
In the water we were up against several national teams - Slovenia, Yugoslavia, Germany and Hungary - so many of our opponents were rather too strong for us. However, we improved game by game, and everyone seemed to have a good time. Tenth in the tournament, but the last ones standing at the party . . . now where have we heard that before?
