Friday 14th February 2003

Sara: "Garry and Kim arrived at Windsor to pick Sara and Colin up from Colin's parents. Made a swift circuit of the M25 to arrive at Stanstead airport before 9 am. Lots of police everywhere and check in and customs was a lengthy affair. Garry was just saying "I wonder where Bill and Wendy are?" when they walked in! Kim was very disappointed not to see lots of nice men in army uniforms. she was, however, glad to receive a free card from a cute steward!

It was a quick charge round the shops before the huge hike down to the Ryanair check in.

On the plane it was the hair of the dog for Bill and Wendy who were nursing monumental hangovers after a late night the night before. They had a Guinness and a small bottle of wine to try and clear their heads. The nap I think was more helpful!!!

Klagenfurt was bright sunny and snowy when we arrived. Kim and Sara both looked like they'd got animals all over them in their furry coats and hats.

Waved goodbye to Bill and Wendy and off we drove!

Headed down the motorway in the hire car - Garry, amazingly enough kept to the speed limit and we went through an impressive 5 mile tunnel to get from Austria to Slovenia. Seeing signs to Bled inspired us to fall off the autobahn and have a look at Lake Bled. Had afternoon tea and cakes in the posh hotel overlooking the lake and castle.

Arrived at the student accommodation "studenski dom" and after a short wait a lady spotted us and showed us our rooms. After much texting and phoning we ascertained that Martin was still somewhere in Ljubliana searching for a power pack for his technical wizardry.

Food called so we went out in search of food in a crisp -9.5 deg C. After a number of bars were reconnaissanced and found to have no food, we found a nice Chinese which, although it was fully booked, they squeezed us in! More texting and phone calls ascertained that Martin, with Bill and Wendy, were on their way back and we would meet them in the Euro Bar near the studenski dom.

Unfortunately the bar closed at 11 and after a few drinks, including the home made lemonade with a sugar pot, which Kim was very impressesed with, and as we were knackered we went back to our rooms. Martin and co arrived back at 12.30 and banged on the door to get their bags which were in our room."
